Arginase: marker, effector, or candidate gene for asthma?
نویسنده
چکیده
Microarray analysis of the expression profiles of lung tissue in two murine models of asthma revealed high levels of arginase I and arginase II activity, in association with IL-4 and IL-13 overexpression, suggesting that arginine pathways are critical in the pathogenesis of asthma.

Mechanisms of occupational asthma: Not all allergens are equal.
Asthma is a heterogeneous lung disorder characterized by airway obstruction, inflammation and eosinophil infiltration into the lung. Both genetics and environmental factors influence the expression of asthma, and not all asthma is the result of a specific immune response to allergen. Numerous asthma phenotypes have been described, including occupational asthma, and therapeutic strategies for as...
متن کاملArginase activity differs with allergen in the effector phase of ovalbumin- versus trimellitic anhydride-induced asthma.
Both trimellitic anhydride (TMA), a small molecular weight chemical, and ovalbumin (OVA), a reference protein allergen, cause asthma with eosinophilia. To test the hypothesis that different allergens elicit symptoms of asthma via different effector pathways, gene expression was compared in lungs of Balb/c mice sensitized with either TMA or OVA, followed by intratracheal challenge with TMA conju...
متن کاملRole of Murine Asthma Model in Discovering Asthma Susceptible Genes
http://e-aair.org 475 Asthma is a genetically complex disease associated with the familiar segregation of atopy and increased levels of total serum IgE. Asthma and atopy are also closely associated with increased bronchial hyperreactivity and elevated blood eosinophil count. These intermediate phenotypes are highly inheritable and the subject of asthma genetics research. The occurrence of asthm...
متن کاملArginine metabolic endotypes related to asthma severity
AIMS Arginine metabolism via inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and arginase 2 (ARG2) is higher in asthmatics than in healthy individuals. We hypothesized that a sub-phenotype of asthma might be defined by the magnitude of arginine metabolism categorized on the basis of high and low fraction of exhaled nitric oxide (FENO). METHODS To test this hypothesis, asthmatics (n = 52) were compared...
متن کاملADAM33 gene polymorphisms in Southwestern Iranian patients with asthma
Objective(s): Asthma, the most frequent chronic respiratory disease, results from a complex interaction between multiple genes and environmental factors. To date, more than 100 candidate genes and single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been reported to be associated with asthma. One of the discovered genes related to asthma is ADAM33. However, the relationship between ADAM33 gene polymorph...
